Bingo Card Maker > Reading Bingo Reading Bingo Card MakerSince bingo is a relatively simple game that even young children can easily master, and it is also very flexible, many teachers have found that variations on the standard game are useful an education tool for their classrooms. In the case of classes containing younger children, many teachers have found that versions of bingo can help teach reading and phonics skills. There are many different ways that bingo can be applied to teaching reading. The simplest variation, suitable only for the youngest children is to use bingo cards printed with letters, and play letter recognition bingo. Older children will of course need a more interesting challenge, but there are lots of possibilities here too. If teaching reading with phonics, there are many variations that can be used. For example, still playing with letter bingo cards, the teacher might say ones, and children are required to identify the sound of the first phoneme, and find the corresponding letter on their bingo card. Other versions of phonics bingo generally require bingo cards printed words - and these of words can be focused around particular phonics topics, such as starting or ending sounds, rhyming, magic-e words, and so on. Depending on the particular variant of the game being played, the teacher can read out the words printed on the card, or a clue to the word (such as a word that rhymes with the one on the bingo card). Likewise, it also possible to play games of bingo using sight words (words that children must learn to recognise by sight, such as those on Dolch sight word list), and this too can help improve reading fluency. The main requirement to play any of these versions of bingo is a set of bingo cards printed with the words and/or letters applicable to the lesson. One option may be to buy pre-printed bingo cards, but these can be expensive, and in any case may not contain the exact items that a particular teacher wants for her class. A better alternative is to print your own bingo cards - this can actually be very easy and quick if you download some bingo card maker software to your PC.
