Phonics Bingo Card Maker


Phonics is probably one of the popular method of teaching children to read. It is based on the principle that particular letters and groups of letters are usually associated with particular sounds. Teachers using phonics generally use a wide range of different classroom activities and teaching techniques cteaching Teachers use a variety of teaching techniques to get this point across and to help children learn phonics rules.

One idea that some teachers are now apply is using modified versions of the game of bingo to teach phonics. Generally speaking, these games of bingo all more or less follow the standard rules of bingo, but are played using special bingo cards printed with words instead of the numbers typically found on bingo cards. The particular words that appear on the cards of course depending on the particular phonics lesson being taught.

Each of the students in class receives one of these bingo cards, and the teacher acts as the bingo caller. The teacher can do this either by calling out items actually printed on the cards, or a "clue" (such as a word that rhymes with the word on the card) if appropriate to the particular phonics topic.

The key requirement to play phonics bingo is a set of bingo cards containing the particular words appropriate for the chosen phonics topic. While it may possible to buy pre-printed bingo cards, this can have disadvantages: such cards can be expensive and may not contain the precise items that a particular teachers wants. A more flexible (and probably cheaper) alternative is for the teacher to print the bingo cards herself using her computer - this might sound difficult and time-consuming, but using some bingo card maker software actually makes the job incredibly quick and easy.
